Rural Schools and Community Coaching Project

Managed by:

Garioch RFC

Project Description

Garioch Rugby Football Club will deliver a programme of community schools coaching in rural primary and secondary schools in the Garioch area.  The sessions will provide a “taster” of touch rugby and every pupil will have access to a term of coaching.

Two part time coaches will be employed for the 2012-13 school session and over 500 P4-P7 children will take part in coaching.  Garioch RFC currently run a successful junior section with over 200 members.

The schools which will participate are mainly in the Kemnay, Meldrum and Alford academy catchment areas.  There will also be some after school coaching at the academies.

Quote from Participating Organisation

David Fyffe, Vice-President, Garioch RFC, said:

"Garioch Rugby Club is delighted to receive LEADER funding support which will help us take forward our community programme of health, fitness and skills training throughout the Garioch area, in co-operation with our local schools.

"Garioch Rugby Club is proud of our achievements as a Club; this funding recognises the contribution we can make and will help us to ensure that our smaller rural communities can benefit, in the same way as the larger towns in our catchment area. It will also encourage our local sponsors and the Scottish Rugby Union to continue their highly valued support for the Club.

"We are grateful to the Rural Aberdeenshire LEADER team for their advice and support in securing this funding."
