Scottish Sculpture Workshop Building Development

Managed by:

Scottish Sculpture Workshop

Project Description

The project is to redevelop the visual arts centre at Lumsden and undertake a comprehensive programme of cultural arts initiatives including artists in residence and educational activities.  The Scottish Sculpture Workshop, which was established thirty years ago, has a national reputation as a centre for artists’ development.  A wide range of user groups will undertake initiatives with SSW as a result of the redeveloped facilities.  There is clear evidence of support from a wide range of community participants.

Quotes from Participating Organisation

Professor Stuart MacDonald, OBE, Chairman, Scottish Sculpture Workshop:

"The award of LEADER Funding will be of enormous support to SSW in achieving its ambitious plans for the future. By helping to make SSW more sustainable in its Aberdeenshire base, the funding not only connects it further to its community but will also increase the value it brings to the local economy and culture.”

Hilary Nicoll, Director, Scottish Sculpture Workshop:

“SSW is absolutely delighted about the LEADER award.  In partnership with our recent Arts Council Lottery success, our redevelopment plans are now much closer to being realised.  Our aim is to provide our growing numbers of creative users with the high quality facilities needed to support our excellent programme, particularly the proposed new community room, which will allow us to host workshops, classes, talks and other events.  We look forward to welcoming a wide range of new participants to SSW as a result of this valuable support.”
