Woodhead & Windyhills Community Woodland Enhancement

Managed by:

Woodhead & Windyhills Community Trust

Project Description

To improve accessibility to community woodland, undertake biological surveys and promote the woodland for both community and educational use.  The woodland is a site of special scientific interest (SSSI) and is important geologically and for its biodiversity.  Woodhead & Windyhills Community Trust has the full support of the local community for management and promotion of the woodland and as the community is widely dispersed, the site gives a local focus for their activities.

Quote from Participating Organisation

Brian Martin, Secretary, Woodhead & Windyhills Community Trust Ltd:

"Woodhead and Windyhills Community Trust Ltd is delighted to have been selected as a suitable candidate for LEADER funding.  This level of financial support will enable us to undertake works to improve general access routes for visitors to the Windyhills SSSI and Nature Reserve while preserving the natural and geological habitats for the general public and those with a specialist interest.  The elements of the award which provide funding for a fungal survey and production of a variety of information resources will allow us to collect, edit and distribute information about the site using material which will provide value to the general public and specialist individuals at appropriate levels."
