Food Tourism Project & the Deeside Sessions

Managed by:

Royal Deeside & the Cairngorms DMO

Project Description

The proposal is to deliver six pilot projects in the Deeside area from July 2010 to March 2011.  These are:

  • On-line food and drink magazine.
  • Local Producers Marquee at Aboyne Highland Games.
  • Food and Walking Event during the Active Aboyne Outdoor Activities Festival.
  • Venison Festival, encouraging local hotels and restaurants to feature local venison on the menu.
  • Dining on Deeside Fortnight to promote local hotels, cafes and local produce.
  • The Deeside Sessions, local folk music at venues throughout Deeside.

On completion of the pilots, the DMO will undertake in-depth analysis to determine future viability and possible expansion in future years.

John Carnie, Tourism Development Manager, Royal Deeside and the Cairngorms DMO

Royal Deeside and the Cairngorms DMO is delighted to received this assistance from LEADER.  The funding for the projects, many of which are food tourism related, will help drive forward tourism in the area and raise awareness of Royal Deeside as a premier, year round destination. It will enable us to deliver the projects to a higher standard and help to increase tourism visits outside the current peak seasons.  We have a number of exciting food projects and will be marketing these under the Royal Deeside Larder brand.
