Food Access Rural Environment (FARE)

Managed by:

Mearns Area Partnership

Project Description

The project relates to the provision of a rural delivery service to be operated throughout the Mearns area under a social enterprise model.  The rural communities to be targeted for this service have difficulty in accessing regular supplies of fresh produce.  Project costs include vehicle and driver costs.  The proposal will address the real issue of accessing fresh produce in rural areas and will focus on areas where displacement is not an issue.  The project has significant support from the local community.  Produce will be sourced locally where possible.

"This award from LEADER will allow Mearns Area Partnership to pilot a project which will identify the need for, and enable delivery of improved food access in rural communities. It will provide a practical outcome to a problem that affects many people living in rural isolation in the Mearns area."
