A Mearns Heritage: 1980-2013 (Forest View Centre)

Managed by:

Aberdeenshire Council, Forest View Centre

Project Description

The project will focus on recent history of the Mearns, taking into consideration local, national and international events which have shaped the development of the area.

A Project Officer will be employed over 2 years to engage adults with learning disabilities through a series of initiatives which involve skills development, research and confidence building.  This will include working with schools, libraries and linking with other communities and will result in a series of events and exhibitions telling the history of the Mearns over the last 30 years.

We are delighted to have been awarded LEADER funding for The Mearns Heritage Project. This means that we will be able to take the Project to the coastal and rural communities of the Mearns, and involve people with learning disabilities, along with community and heritage groups. Without this funding the Project could not have gone ahead, and we are grateful for all the support and guidance during the application process. This is a great Christmas present for our service users, who will form the Project Team, and will contribute to building new Heritage knowledge and research.
