Udny Community Wind Turbine Purchase
Managed by:
Udny Community Trust Company Ltd
Project Description
The project relates to a 10% contribution towards the cost of purchasing an 800kw community owned wind turbine. Overall construction and commissioning costs are in the region of £1.4 million. LEADER funded an earlier feasibility study for the wind turbine. The successful completion of the study has led to the applicant obtaining full planning permission and grid access for the turbine. The turbine will generate an income from the sale of electricity through the grid. Any surplus funds generated by the turbine will be directly re-invested in the community through the Community Trust and used for community benefit.

Garth Entwistle, Director of Udny Community Trust Co. Ltd.
The Udny Community Trust is very pleased to receive LEADER support for the Trust’s development of a Community-owned turbine within the parish of Udny. LEADER grant aid will help us to finance the purchase, construction and commissioning of the Enercon E48 turbine we have selected. This LEADER grant gives us comfort and encourages us to move forward. We have ambitious plans for the funds that will flow into the Trust from the community turbine. These plans are going to be re-visited later this year when we arrange another community-wide planning event. The whole of the Udny community is excited.
